Baseball Drops Series Finale Twinbill To Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College baseball team seeked a series win but instead dropped both games of a doubleheader at Puget Sound on Tuesday afternoon.

Puget Sound 4 Whitman 1
The final conference game of the series saw the Loggers score all but one run in the third inning and stymie the Whitman offense for most of the game.

Russell Peterson (1-3) tossed a serviceable outing to give the Blues a chance to win. He worked six complete innings, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts while only issuing two bases on balls.

Nate Korahais and Brandon Ting led Whitman at the plate, both recording a pair of hits with Ting scoring his team's lone run in the third inning on a Nik Greb sacrifice fly. Korahais' multi-hit performance with his eighth of the season.

Spero recorded a pair of hits and scored a run for the Loggers. Johnson tossed five complete innings for the win, allowing one run on four hits and fanning five.

Puget Sound 19 Whitman 1
The Loggers scored in each of the seven innings and won going away to conclude the series. The win gave UPS the sweep of the doubleheader and series win.

Matt Churchill's grand slam in the fourth inning highlighted a six-run inning that blew the game open.

The Blues staffed the game with Brayden Tagomori pitching the first one and one-third innings. Charlie Coffman and Ben Nielsen both recorded scoreless outings.

Beck Maguire (1 H, 1 RBI) scored Whitman's lone run when he was driven home by Halen Otte in the first inning.

The Blues return home and will square off against Lewis & Clark on short rest for their NWC home opener. The two teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 and a noon single game the following day.
