Baseball Drops Pitchers Duel To Lewis & Clark In Series Finale

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Russell Petersen delivered one of the finest outings of his young career, allowing one run on three hits over eight complete innings while striking out eight. The effort would come in defeat however as the Whitman College baseball team fell 2-0 to Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference action on Monday at Borleske Stadium.

The game was the series finale as the Blues fall to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in conference.

Petersen's (1-4), who threw 113 pitches, lone run came in the sixth inning, a solo homerun by Cavagnaro which proved to be all the offense the Pios needed. Ritter (2-1) and Kerr combined for the shutout. Ritter started and pitched six complete with Kerr coming on to pick up the saves in three scoreless innings of work.

Carl Moland-Covash pitched a solid ninth in relief of Peterson, but gave up a homerun to the first batter he faced.

Despite the dominant outing from Peterson, he did run into some early inning trouble. The Pios loaded the bases on a base hit, a walk and an infield error, but Peterson recorded the final out on a popup to AJ Romero behind the dish.

Next up for the Blues is a midweek non-conference game at Eastern Oregon. Whitman and EOU will play a single game this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
