Baseball Completes Series Win With Twinbill Split

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College baseball team split a doubleheader with Pacific Lutheran for the second straight day, winning the opener 12-3 but falling 11-2 in the nightcap on Sunday at PLU Field.

The opener was the finale of the Northwest Conference portion of the series as game two was played as a non-conference game. The victory gave the series win for the Blues who are now tied with Linfield for the fourth and final spot in the NWC Tournament.

Whitman (20-17, 11-10 NWC) will look to solidify that spot when it squares off against Whitworth next weekend to close the regular season.

Jack Bickerton also homered, his a solo shot in the third as part of an impressive hitting performance. He also doubled in a run and finished with three hits, three runs and two RBI.

Nate Korahais (2 H, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB) also had his way with PLU pitching, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances and adding a stolen base. His walk to open the ninth led to seven Whitman runs, all crossing the plate with two outs.

Russell Petersen (4-4) worked an impressive seven complete innings for the win. He allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts. Isaiah Granado recorded one out in the eight and Rylan Burigsay recorded the final five outs to pick up his second save on the weekend.

Carl Moland-Kovash started on the mound and was the pitcher of record for the Blues after giving up three runs in two complete innings.
