Otte, Petz Heroic In Extra-Inning Win for the Blues Over Pacific

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Halen Otte tied the game with a homerun in the ninth, Nate Petz walked it off with a homer in the 10th and the Whitman College baseball team rallied late to beat Pacific 9-8 in 10 innings in Northwest Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Borleske Stadium.

The win avoids a series sweep for the Blues, and is undoubtedly a momentum builder heading into this week and even beyond. Otte and Petz delivered outstanding performances at the plate to go along with their late inning heroics. Otte batted 4-4 with one run and three RBI, and Petz posted four hits, three runs and two RBI. Each had two extra-base hits including their roundtrippers.

Nate Korahais and Jack Bickerton keyed the Blues at the plate as well. Korahais had three hits with a run scored, an RBI and a double, and Bickerton also doubled as part of a two-hit, one-run, one-RBI performance.

Rylan Burigsay (2-1) earned the win out of the bullpen, pitching the final one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief.

Nishina and Koester both had two hits and an RBI for the Boxers who led 4-0 through three and one-half innings. Whitman cut the lead to one run after Petz tripled home AJ Romero in the fifth, then took the lead for the first time after Otte drove in a run with a base hit in the seventh.

Pacific tied the game in the eighth then took the lead on a Lagatta RBI hit in the top of the ninth. Otte went yard in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out homer and Petz won it one later, also crushing his homer with two outs to lift Whitman to the win.

The Blues return to action for a second-straight midweek game this Tuesday against Eastern Oregon. First pitch at Borleske Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
