Men's Golf Claims CA State Intercollegiate Title

VENTURA, Calif. - After holding the top spot through two rounds, the Whitman College men's golf team stayed the course on Tuesday's third and final round to win the CA State Intercollegiate hosted by Cal Lutheran at the Olivia Links.

The women's side dropped two spots on the final round to finish fourth overall.

The Blues entered the final round five strokes better than Pomona-Pitzer and, while both sides were each other's equals on Day 2, Whitman held steady and claimed the title in the team's opening tournament of the season.

Ben Sweet came roaring back and shot 11 under par in the final two rounds to place third on the final individual leaderboard. Grady Brown and Mason Remington both dropped spots after Tuesday's final round but still cracked the Top 10 in finishing fifth and seventh, respectively.

Cindy Luo paced the Blues in the women's competition, placing 10th on the final individual leaderboard.

Both teams next head to Oregon for the Orange & Black Invitational hosted by Lewis & Clark Sept. 22 and 23.
