Women's Tennis Tops George Fox, Linfield In Pair Of Road Victories

The Whitman College women's tennis team rolled to a pair of dominant Northwest Conference road victories, first beating George Fox 7-0 then turning back Linfield 6-1.

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Blues swept doubles to grab all three points and seize early control of the match. At the top spot, Renata Rosell and Nana Vang powered past Riley Bobkiewicz and Sophie Denham 6–2, while Bailey Bell and Sascha Wells clinched the doubles point with a 7–5 win over Juhree Kizziar and Shanah Denham at No. 2. Julia Longpre and Gloria Lau opened the day with a convincing 6–1 win at No. 3 against Audrey Gardner and Nicole Schnurbusch to complete the sweep.​

Whitman carried that momentum into singles, winning all six matches in straight sets to close out the shutout. Vang was efficient at No. 1, defeating Bobkiewicz 6–2, 6–2, while Rosell outlasted Shanah Denham 7–6, 6–4, 6–3 in a marathon at No. 2 that featured three tightly contested sets. Wells added a 6–3, 6–2 victory over Sophie Denham on court three, and Bell backed her up with a 6–3, 6–4 win over Kizziar at No. 4.​

Lower in the lineup, Lau turned in a steady 6–4, 6–2 performance over Gardner at No. 5 singles. Leah Lovato then capped the perfect morning at No. 6, edging Schnurbusch 7–5 in the opening set before closing the door with a 6–0 second set.​

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Whitman (5–2, 5–0 NWC) set the tone in doubles, dropping just two games across the three courts to secure the opening point. At the top spot, Nana Vang and Bailey Bell cruised to a 6–1 victory over Kaitlynn Canubida and Sam Baltz, while Julia Longpre and Gloria Lau matched that 6–1 scoreline against Sundi King and Gianna Molony at No. 2. 

Natalie Cruz and Leah Lovato completed the sweep with a dominant 6–0 win at No. 3 over Lyla Khlee and Steffanie Stark.​

In singles, Sascha Wells gave Whitman a 2–0 lead with a straight-sets win at No. 1, posting a 6–1, 6–2 result against Canubida. Lau followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–1 victory over King on court four, and Lovato did not drop a game in a 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 5 against Molony to clinch the team result. Cruz wrapped up Whitman's scoring with a 6–1, 6–0 decision over Khlee at No. 6.​

Bell added Whitman's other singles point at No. 3, winning 6–2 before claiming the match by opponent retirement against Emily Redwood. Linfield's lone point came at No. 2 singles, where Baltz edged Longpre 6–3, 4–6, 10–4 in a super tiebreak. 

The Blues conclude a busy weekend on Sunday at Lewis & Clark. Start time is set for 11:00 p.m.
