No. 32 Women's Tennis Falls To No. 17 Kenyon

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 32 Whitman College women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 17 Kenyon College in a neutral-site matchup Friday morning at Eyre Courts.​

The Blues moved to 10-5 on the season, while Kenyon improved to 9-2 behind a strong showing in singles play. Whitman grabbed early momentum with a win at No. 1 doubles, but the Owls rallied to secure the opening point and carried that edge into singles.​

Renata Rosell and Nana Vang provided Whitman's highlight in doubles, taking down Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime 7-5 at the top spot. Kenyon answered with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 and a 7-5 win at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.​

In singles, Kenyon swept the top four positions to pull away. Vang fell 6-2, 6-2 to Lazaridou at No. 1, and Rosell battled in the second set before dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Kiara Komlodi at No. 2. The Owls added straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to extend their lead.​

Whitman's lone team point came from a marathon victory by Gloria Lau at No. 5 singles. After dropping the first set 6-1, Lau forced a third with a 7-6 win in the second and outlasted Elizabeth Ackermann 12-10 in the deciding super tiebreak. Kenyon closed the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Leah Lovato at No. 6.

Whitman closes its spring break east coast trip on Saturday, March 21 against Haverford. Start time is set for 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
