Women's Tennis Blanks Pacific In NWC Road Action

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Whitman College women's tennis team stayed perfect in Northwest Conference play with a 7-0 sweep at Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday at Holce Tennis Courts.

The Blues improved to 12-5 overall and 10-0 in NWC action behind a fast start in doubles and straight-set wins across the completed singles courts. Whitman dropped just eight games in three doubles matches to secure the early point.

At the top of the lineup, Renata Rosell and Nana Vang set the tone with a 6-3 victory over Chloe Takahashi and Tiara Yeung at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 team of Gloria Lau and Sascha Wells matched that score line against Brooke Curtis and Mia Yamaguchi, and Jules Thompson and Bailey Bell closed out the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3 over Henleigh Elder and Morgan Wagoner.

Whitman kept the pressure on in singles, winning five completed matches and leading on the remaining court when play was halted. Vang outlasted Takahashi in a super tiebreak at No. 1, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3, to cap her two-win day. At No. 2, Wells rallied from a set down to defeat Yeung 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The middle of the order was dominant, with Julia Longpre easing past Curtis 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Bell carried her doubles momentum into a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yamaguchi on court four. Lau sealed the team shutout with a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Wagoner at No. 5 singles.

The Blues play their final NWC regular season home matches next weekend when they welcome George Fox and Lewis & Clark College to town.
