Women's Tennis Too Much For Puget Sound

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Whitman College women's tennis team remained perfect in Northwest Conference play with a 6–1 win over Puget Sound on Sunday morning at the Whitman Tennis Courts.​

Whitman set the tone in doubles, taking two of three courts to grab the early 1–0 lead. At the top spot, Renata Rosell and Jules Thompson outlasted Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck, 7–5, while Natalie Cruz and Bailey Bell rolled to a 6–3 win at No. 3. Puget Sound's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Nicole Wilson and Frances English posted a 6–4 victory.​

The Blues then dominated singles play, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Rosell cruised to a 6–0, 6–2 result over Yamada at No. 1, and Julia Longpre was equally convincing at No. 2 with a 6–3, 6–0 win over English. Gloria Lau added another straight-sets decision at No. 3, 6–1, 6–1 over Wilson, while Cruz delivered a 6–2, 6–1 victory at No. 5 against Zoe Richter. At No. 6, Michelle Deng closed out the day with a 6–2, 7–5 triumph over Meredith Friess.​

Puget Sound's point came at No. 4 singles, where Buck earned a 6–1, 6–2 win over Leah Lovato. The match was clinched with the early singles results, allowing Whitman to stay unbeaten in conference action.

The close out the first portion of conference play this Saturday, March 14 at Whitworth.
