Women's Tennis Caps NWC Regular Season With Road Win At UPS

TACOMA, Wash. — The Whitman College women's tennis team closed its Northwest Conference slate on a high note Sunday, earning a 5–2 road win at the University of Puget Sound. The Blues swept doubles and added four singles victories to secure the dual.

Whitman set the tone with a dominant performance in doubles, to earn the point. Jules Thompson and Natalie Cruz put the first point on the board with a 6–0 win at No. 3, followed by a 6–1 victory from Nana Vang and Michelle Deng at No. 2. Gloria Lau and Sascha Wells completed the sweep with a tight 7–6, 7–5 decision at the top spot over Kaylee Yamada and Pearl Buck.

In singles, Wells delivered another blow in the No. 2 position with a straight-sets win, 6–4, 6–2, over Frances English. Lau quickly followed at No. 3, rolling to a 6–1, 6–4 result against Joy Lowe. At the top of the lineup, Renata Rosell provided the match clincher with another straight-sets win, 6–4, 6–3, over Yamada.

Cruz added to Whitman's day with a gritty result at No. 6, taking a 7–5, 6–2 win over Meredith Friess. Puget Sound's points came in the middle of the lineup, where Buck topped Leah Lovato 6–2, 6–4 at No. 4 and Zoe Richter edged Deng in three sets, 2–6, 6–4, 6–2, at No. 5. 

The Blues now turn their sights to next weekend's NWC Tournament which will be hosted by the Blues on the Whitman College campus. The semifinals begin Saturday with times and opponents yet to be announced.
