Brian Richard was the consummate point-guard for the Missionaries during their run of success in the mid-1980's. A key member of the squad his junior season, Richard blossomed into an elite player his senior season of 1986-87, receiving the conference's Most Valuable Player award and being named to the NAIA All-District team.

During his senior campaign, Richard led the district in assists with 6.9 per game, was eighth in scoring at over 17 points per contest, and second in steals with 3.6 per game. He led the conference in assists in, both, his junior and senior seasons.

In his final regular season game, with the conference title on the line, Richard tallied a game-high 30 points against Lewis & Clark, placing the Missionaries in a three-way tie for first.  The Missionaries finished the season 16-10 (7-3 in conference), winning all 5 games in the second round of the conference season.

Coach Jim Mastin said of Richard who transferred to Whitman after his sophomore year, "I'd loved to have had Brian for all four years. I don't think there would have been any limit to what he could have done."
