TACOMA - No. 12 nationally-ranked and six-time defending Northwest Conference champion Whitman ran the program's winning streak against conference opponents to 109
Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Puget Sound at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Missionaries improved their conference record to 7-0 and now stand 9-3 overall.
Whitman's singles contestants dropped just 13 games in their six matches.
Andy Riggs (6-0, 6-3),
Jake Hoeger (6-2, 6-0),
James Rivers (6-1, 6-2),
Alex Noyes (6-1, 6-1),
Parker Silverman (6-0, 6-2) and
Jacob Christensen (6-0, 6-1) all prevailed convincingly.
"We won in pretty dominting fashion in singles," Whitman coach
Jeff Northam said.
In doubles matches, the Missionaries dropped only five games.
Will Huskey and
Steven Roston took an 8-0 decision at No. 2,
Andrew La Cava and Silverman won 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles event, and
Colton Malesovas and Noyes snatched victory at No. 3, 8-3.
"The guys played well on the road," Northam said. "I was happy and impressed with their level of play."
The Missionaries will continue their road show early next week against three nationally-ranked opponents from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They play No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer on
Monday at 1 p.m., 21st-ranked Whittier on
Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., and No. 15 Redlands at 3 p.m.
Wednesday.
