WALLA WALLA, Wash. -
Jake Hoeger and
Gary Ho were among a quartet of double-winners on the day as host Whitman College's men's tennis team completed a season sweep of Linfield College by downing the Wildcats 9-0 in Northwest Conference action Sunday at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.
The 18th-ranked Missionaries (8-3, 6-0 NWC) defeated Linfield (2-9, 1-6) on its home courts 13 days ago by the same score.
Hoeger and Ho manned the top of the singles and doubles ladders for Whitman, first teaming up for an 8-2 victory at 1-doubles over Linfield's Tim Hawkins and Trent Prussing.
In singles matches Hoeger picked up a straight-set win at No. 1 over Prussing while Ho was taking care of the Wildcats' Carter Pentz in similar straight-set fashion at 2-singles.
Also picking up pairs of wins Sunday for Whitman were
Nishaant Limaye and
Alex Noyes.
Limaye teamed with
Azur Ali in a win at 3-doubles then added another triumph at No. 3 singles. Noyes was paired with
Trevor Fennessy in the Whitties' win at No. 2 doubles and later Noyes added a victory at 4-singles.
The nationally-ranked Missionaries next head to Southern California where, between March 16 through 20, they will square off against four top-25 programs -- No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College, No. 9 Bowdoin College, No. 14 University of Redlands and 21st-ranked Tufts University.
