SPOKANE, Wash. Whitman's
Mario Santos-Davidson posted a 5-over par 77 to lead the Blues after the opening day of the Whitworth Invitational, hosted by Whitworth University at Kalispel Country Club.
On the team leaderboard, Whitman sits in seventh place with a +44 score of 332 at the par-72, 6,645-yard course. Willamette University leads with a 7-over 295.
Santos-Davidson is tied for 14th with Sunday's score, and one stroke ahead of teammate
Luc Birchfield (78, +6) who is tied for 19th.
First-year
Eric Wasserman carded a 10-over 82 and
Nick Xiang was 13-over at an 85 as both cracked the top 35.
Another first-year,
Tobias Zabel, was next on Whitman's card with a 16-over 88 that is 41st on the individual leaderboard.
Sam Hinton of Willamette and Sam Stiles of Whitworth are tied at the top for medalist honors after the first day, both shooting 1-under 71s.
Play resumes Monday morning at the Country Club with the final round expected to finish in the early afternoon.
