BANKS, Ore.  Matching its score from the opening day, Whitman men's golf was able to climb one spot in the team standings during Sunday's final round of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic as they finished in eighth place with a two-day total of 612 (309-309). Willamette University (282-280—562) earned the team title with a 14-shot cushion at the par-71, 6,400-yard layout of the Quail Valley Golf Course.

Eric Wasserman (77-72—149, +7) posted the low round of the day for Whitman, dropping in 11 par putts along with three birdie putts during his round. Sunday's score was Wasserman's lowest this season as he finished the Classic in a tie for 16th place.

Though Wasserman carded the low score for Whitman, its four other golfers weren't far behind. Luc Birchfield (77-76—153), Mario Santos-Davidson (76-82—158) and Nick Xiang (80-79—159) were all within 10 strokes of Wasserman's number, while Tobias Zabel (79-85—163) was only four more strokes back.

Birchfield used 10 pars and a pair of birdies Sunday to finish tied for 26th, and Santos-Davidson piled up 12 pars fo finish in 37th.

Xiang's eight pars and two birdies helped him finish in a 38th-place tie, and Zabel was tied for 42nd after a Sunday that included five pars.

Willamette's Trent Jones (66-70—136) defeated Pacific Lutheran University's Mitchell Baldridge in a playoff to capture individual medalist honors.

Whitman's fall season continues with one final outing, the Whitman Invite on October 28-29 at Wine Valley Golf Club.
