GEARHART, Ore. Whitman's men's golf team carded its lowest one-day total in two years Saturday on the opening day of the weekend's George Fox Invitational. The Blues posted a 26-over par score of 314 to finish the afternoon in fifth place on the team leaderboard.
Toby Zabel,
Nick Xiang and
Luc Birchfield led the way for the Blues by placing within the top 15 on the individual leaderboard. Zabel (T-6th; 76, plus-4) and Xiang (T-11th; 77, +5) each posted career-best single-day rounds, while Birchfield snuck into the top-15 with a 6-over 78.
Senior
Mario Santos-Davidson also broke 80 for the Blues, registering a 7-over 79 at the par-72, 6,501 layout of the Gearhart Golf Course to end the day tied for 21st.
The conclusion of the Invitational begins Sunday with a morning shotgun start.
