WALLA WALLA, Wash. Â Playing its first home match of the season on its outdoor courts on Sunday, it didn't take long for the host Blues to feel right at home as 13th-ranked Whitman raced through a 9-0 Northwest Conference men's tennis victory over visiting Whitworth University.
Whitman (16-5, 7-0 NWC) dropped a total of 23 games to the Pirates (2-11, 2-6) across the doubles and singles matches.
A quick three-point lead from a doubles sweep sped up to break-neck pace in singles action.
Robert Carter at No. 3 and
Daniel Foster at No. 5 each surrendered only one game in their straight-set victories.
At 6-singles
Adam Rapoport rolled through a 6-2, 6-0 win, and
Petar Jivkov at No. 1 and
Gary Ho at No. 4 pounded out identical 1 & 2 wins.
The longest Pirate to last Sunday was Ian Fisher who managed to scratch out a four games in his 1 & 3 loss to Whitman's
Chase Friedman at No. 2.
For the day Foster -- who had teamed with Ho at 2-doubles in an 8-1 win -- gave up just two games.
Whitman has a hectic weekend in store for its next outings, splitting the squad and heading into the Southwest and further into the Northwest.
One group will travel to Tyler, Texas, to take on 15th-ranked Trinity (Texas) University on Saturday and then host and No 17 University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday.
The other group will play conference matches beginning with a rare doubleheader match Saturday at the University of Puget Sound, followed by a Sunday match at Pacific Lutheran University.
