DuPONT, Wash. The fall-semester portion of the 2017-18 schedule for men's golf got underway Sunday, with the Whitman men finishing the first of the two-day Collegiate Open at the The Home Course in 11th place.
The Blues put up a four-player round of 315 on the team leaderboard for a score 27 over par at the par 72, 6,853-yard course. North Idaho College sits atop that leaderboard with a 1-under 287.
First-year
Eric Wasserman paced Whitman on Day 1 with a 3-over 75 to finish the day in a seven-way tie for 21st place.
The Blues' other scoring golfers finished in a bunch, only three strokes apart. Senior
Will Selman and sophomore Tobia Zabel carded 7-over 79s to tie for 48th, and sophomore
Luc Birchfield (T-58) was 10-over with an 82.
Charlie Schneider shot an 84 and
Mario Santos-Davidson an 86 in their opening rounds.
The Open, hosted by Pacific Lutheran University, resumes Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
