KAHUKU, Hawaii Whitman College's men's golf team finished third at the Chaminade (Hawaii) Tri-Match on Monday and Tuesday, with
Jimmy Jacobson leading the Blues by carding 80s on both days for a two-day score of 16-over par 160.
Hawaii Pacific University (301-315—616) led the tri-match, finishing 21 strokes ahead of host Chaminade University (308-329—637). Whitman (321-326—647) was just 10 strokes back of the Division II Silverswords.
Day 1 of the tri-match was contested at the par-72 layout of the Leileihua Golf Course, and the second day was played on the par-72 Palmer Course of the Turtle Bay Resort.
Jacobson's 160 was eighth overall on the individual leaderboard as the sophomore tied for match-best honors for average score on the par 4s (4.15). He also led Whitman in total pars with 20 over the 36-hole tournament. Jacobson was tied for 10th after the opening round and moved up two spots with Tuesday's results.
Mario Santos-Davidson (84-78—162) rebounded mightily on Day 2 for Whitman, moving from 15th to 10th on the leaderboard while tying three others with a tournament-best five birdies.
In 10th place overall was the Blues'
Eric Wasserman (80-84—164), and right behind in 11th was
Luc Birchfield (83-84—167).
Will Selman (78-100—178) posted the low round of the team at LeiLeihua but didn't fare as well at Turtle Bay.
Individual medalist honors went to Patrick Tran (73-77—150) of Chaminade whose 6-over par score edged out runner-ups Chad Vander Dussen (72-79—151) and Zach Kwan (75-76—151), both of Hawaii Pacific.
Whitman is next in action at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on April 7-8 at Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane, Washington.
