NEWBERG, Ore. - John Carter and Kai Strawn advanced in doubles and newcomer Harshvardhan Chopra did the same in singles as the first day of the main draw concluded at the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships hosted at George Fox University.
 
Carter and Strawn opened the tournament with a Friday win over Lewis & Clark then topped the Puget Sound pair of Beckman and Boxell, 8-6. The duo will have its work cut out for them on Sunday when they take on George Fox's Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre in the quarterfinals. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
 
Chopra has yet to drop a set on his run to the singles quarterfinals. He topped Whitworth's Ethan Warring 7-5, 6-4, then defeated Lewis & Clark's Logan Hauser 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 16. Chopra will face George Fox's Ryan Olsen Sunday morning (8:00 a.m.) in hopes of advancing to the afternoon's semifinal round.
