Women's Lacrosse Falls At Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Madeleine Sherry and Erin Magnusen both scored three goals, Gracie Maulik added two more but that accounted for all the Whitman College women's lacrosse team's scoring in a 29-8 loss at Linfield in Northwest Conference action on Thursday evening.

Izzy Eggerling scooped up a game-high five groundballs and Magnusen and Maulik both added two to their scoring total.

Abby Ross led the Wildcats (12-5, 8-4 NWC) with a game-high seven goals with Bethany Shade adding five goals and four assists.

Taylor Hebert played a full 60 minutes in net for the Blues (5-9, 4-7 NWC) and recorded 13 saves. Lizzy Harms posted four saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Despite the loss, the Blues trailed by only two goals at the end of the first quarter. Amelia Wright scored a pair in the opening period for Linfield, but Sherry netted back-to-back goals to cut into the lead.

The Wildcats unloaded for 12 goals in the second quarter to put the Blues way behind the eight ball. After Maulik scored the opening goal of the period, Linfield netted six of the next seven goals to take an 11-5 lead with 7:12 to play in period. Linfield closed the half on a 6-0 run to lead 17-6 at the break.

After a close third quarter, Linfield pulled away with eight goals in the fourth while holding the Blues scoreless.

The Blues play their season finale this Friday, April 29 at George Fox. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
