10/15/2023 11:29:00 PM

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Led by Mason Remington topping the final individual leaderboard, the Whitman College men's golf team rallied from the 10 strokes down to win the Northwest Conference Fall Classic as the two-day tournament came to a close on Sunday at the Michelbook Country Club.

The men's squad entered the day in third and still needed an enormous run on Sunday's back nine to win the title. The Blues entered the day trailing Linfield by 15 strokes and Whitworth by 11, but came storming back as all five players fired under par in the final nine holes. Each saved their very best for last by birdieing the par five 18th hole to secure the win.

Remington won by three strokes after shooting nine strokes better on day two to finish nine under 135 for the tournament. His day two round of 64 set a new program and propelled him to the top of the leaderboard and gave the Blues the title.

The women's golf team's tournament came to a close as well. The team held on to its third place spot from Saturday's opening round behind second place Whitworth and champion George Fox.

Cindy Luo delivered a solid performance throughout the tournament. She finished fourth overall after shooting four over 148 for the tournament.

The Blues close the fall hosting the Confluence Classic on Oct. 22-23.
