The Whitman College men's golf team rose above the competition to win the Puget Sound Invitational, the women's squad entered a pair of individuals in Katya Kurkoski and Cindy Luo in the UPS Spring Invitational who both placed in the top five to highlight the close of spring break on Sunday.
The Puget Sound Invitational was held in Tacoma at the Oakbrook Golf Club and the UPS Spring Invitational was held in Dupont at the Home Course
On the women's side, the Blues sent their top two individuals in Kurkoski and Luo and the pair did not disappoint. Katya Kurkoski opened with her best round of the year, finishing par-birdie for a four over par 76. Her second round 83 left her in fourth place. Luo placed fifth with rounds of 84 and 82 over the two days.Â
The individual title was claimed by Sarah Lawrence of Bellevue College and the team title went to Pacific (Ore.) with a seven shot margin over Pacific Lutheran University.
The men's team won its second tournament of the season. The Blues bested a field of nine teams beating Linfield by three shots with George Fox a distant third, 14 strokes back.

Tom Hoyne who placed tied for fifth individually with a four over par total of 146. First year
Ben Sweet's second day one under par 70 was good enough to move him into a tie for ninth place with a two day total of 148.Â
May Ray-Keil was also a big contributor, shooting two strokes better on day two and moving up seven spots to crack the Top 20.
The individual title went to Jorgen Viken from Lewis-Clark State College with a 4 under par two day total 138.
The season now ramps up with the final two and critical Northwest Conference events. First up is the NWC Spring Classic set for April 1-2 in Spokane, Wash.
