Another Milestone Reached In Back-to-back Wins At UPS

TACOMA, Wash. - A day after Erin Magnuson notched her 100th career goal, Madeleine Sherry did the same with four goals to go along with four assists and the Whitman College women's lacrosse team took down Puget Sound for the second straight day with an 18-8 Northwest Conference win on Easter Sunday.

Magnuson led all scorers with six goals for the Blues (13-3, 10-1 NWC) who were also aided by three goals from Gracie Maulik and a goal and four assists from Eliza Daigle.

Emily Lariviere provided the offensive for the Loggers with four goals and Cat Schilli chipped in two more.

Korin Wheaton posted five saves in goal for the Blues and Olivia Almy and Phoebe Crowther combined for 14 saves for UPS.

Whitman got off to great starts in both halves which proved to be the difference. Sherry scored twice in the opening quarter and Magnuson added a goal and two assists to help the Blues to a 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

The Loggers played the Blues even in the second quarter. Both teams traded goals the entire period with Maulik scoring twice for the Blues and Lariviere doing the same for the Loggers.

Whitman put the game away with seven third quarter goals. Magnuson scored twice inside of the opening two minutes of the half, then netted two more in the back half of the quarter to put her team up 15-6 heading to the final period.

Whitman visits George Fox next Saturday, April 15 in a game that will likely determine the top seed heading into the NWC Tournament later this month. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
