Harrington Shines In First National Appearance

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Whitman College cross country runner Ella Harrington raced into the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships spotlight on Saturday, showing resilience and determination among the nation's fastest runners.

Harrington, in only her sophomore season, covered the 6K course in 23:22.5 and finished 186th overall, moving up an impressive 40 spots from her starting position, all while maintaining an average mile split of 3:56.6.

"Ella ran a really smart race," said head coach Scott Shields. "The conditions were really hot and challenging. She started the race strong and ended up moving up 40 spots in the race from start to finish. Really proud of her race overall."

Harrington's performance capped a breakout season for Whitman's emerging star. Facing a stacked field of seasoned runners from powerhouse programs, she settled into a smooth, confident and smart rhythm.

Ella Harrington's NCAA debut will hopefully be a sign of things to come as looks to make even more strides in 2026.
