Women's Lacrosse Falls at Chapman in Road Trip Finale

CHAPMAN, Calif. - Sarah Hawkins continued her fine start to her collegiate career with a team-high three goals but it proved not be enough as the Whitman College women's lacrosse team fell to Chapman 17-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Blues (4-3) were eying a clean sweep on their California road trip, but couldn't come up with a third road win in as many days. Nevertheless, Whitman concluded a successful road trip with a 2-1 record after wins over Whittier and Cal Lutheran.

Olivia Banuelos added one goal and one assist for Whitman which was done in by 26 turnovers, 10 more than the Panthers. Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky scooped up a team-best three groundballs.

The Blues did hold a lead after back-to-back Hawkins goals gave them a 3-2 advantage after one quarter. Chapman took control, though, when it netted seven goals in the second quarter and led by six at halftime.

The Blues remained in the hunt after playing the Panthers even in the third quarter, but were shut out in the fourth as Chapman pulled away for the win.

Whitman returns home and will have two weeks off before visiting Eastern Oregon on Wednesday, April 2.
