Women's Lacrosse Falls To George Fox In NWC Tournament Final

NEWBERG, Ore. - In its first-ever Northwest Conference Tournament final, Gracie Maulik scored a team-high three goals but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's lacrosse team was unable to dethrone George Fox in the NWC Tournament final on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues (13-5) played the Bruins to two close games during the regular season and did the same today. The third time was not the charm as George Fox won its second straight tournament title and continued its decade-long run of NWC dominance and earned the league's automatic NCAA bid.

Teagan Huff and Sarah Hawkins both scored two goals and added an assist for the Blues who cut the lead to one goal in the fourth quarter after trailing by four at halftime. Renn Novak posted five saves for Whitman in the losing effort.

Novak allowed only one Bruin goal in the third quarter before Lola McConaghy scored with just over 10 minutes in the game to cut the lead to 10-9.

That would be the final goal of the season for the Blues who saw George Fox score a pair over the final four minutes and narrowly walk away with the win.
