Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Whitworth In Season Opener

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's lacrosse team opened its 2026 season in style Friday evening, riding a dominant middle stretch and a big night from its attack to a 14-9 win over rival Whitworth at James Hayner Field.

Whitman improved to 1-0 behind a balanced offense that saw seven different Blues find the back of the net, highlighted by Lola McConaghy's four-goal performance that tied for the game high. Playmaker Sarah Hawkins orchestrated much of that production, posting a game-high five assists to go with two goals for a seven-point outing.

McConaghy and Hawkins helped Whitman break open a tight contest in the third quarter, turning a 6-5 halftime edge into an 11-5 cushion. McConaghy scored three times in the period, twice off feeds from Hawkins, while Molly Labhart added a free-position goal and Serafin Miller and Hawkins each struck to complete a six-goal frame for the hosts.

Whitworth (0-1) hung around early and made its push behind four goals from Campbell Vincent, including a free-position conversion, and a fourth-quarter surge that cut into a 14-6 deficit. Sierra Witte and Megan Whitman each tallied twice for the Pirates, with Whitman scoring once on the extra player and Witte cashing in on a man-down free-position shot.

Whitman's pressure and depth showed up in the possession and hustle stats. The Blues outshot the Pirates 34-17 and controlled 18 of 25 draws, led by Miller and Teagan Huff, while also collecting 11 ground balls to Whitworth's 10. In goal, Renn Novak earned the win with six saves, while counterpart Charlotte Norton turned away eight shots for Whitworth.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky, Labhart, Hawkins, Huff, Ellie Milesi and Miller all chipped in goals for Whitman, with Pasena-Littlesky striking twice and Miller adding a pair as well. Whitman led 2-2 after the first quarter, 6-5 at the half and used the six-goal third to create decisive separation before closing out the rivalry victory.

Whitman is next at Eastern Oregon on Wednesday, March 4 for an exhibition match. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
