Men's Tennis Too Much For River Otters

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College men's tennis team closed out a perfect Northwest Conference home weekend with a dominant 6–1 win over Lewis & Clark College on Sunday afternoon at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

The Blues swept all three doubles courts to grab the opening point, then rode straight-set victories on five of six singles courts to seal their second NWC victory in as many days. At the top of the lineup, Alexander Stage set the tone with a 6–1, 7–5 win over Noah Sutin at No. 1 singles, backing up a strong doubles performance.
In the marquee doubles matchup, Stage teamed with Niklas Jensen for a 6–1 win on court one over Sutin and Kaden Sigurdsson, giving Whitman early control. Artem Manov and Charles Rush matched that scoreline at No. 2 doubles against Wade McDermott and Kai Wills, and Guillermo Rodriguez and Hanri Luo finished off the sweep with a 6–2 victory at No. 3 over Spencer Loucks and Arnav Bishnoi.

Luo was first off in singles, rolling to a 6–2, 6–3 win over Max Furman on court six. Jensen quickly followed on court two, dispatching Wills 6–2, 6–2, before Rodriguez completed a flawless day with a 6–0, 6–0 rout of Loucks at No. 4 singles. Stage then clinched the team result on court one, holding off a late charge from Sutin to close in straight sets.

Manov added another straight-set victory on court three, grinding out a 7–5, 6–2 decision over McDermott to push the Whitman total to six team points. The Pioneers' lone win came at No. 5 singles, where Bridger Galyardt edged Charles Boyden in a tight first-set tiebreaker before pulling away 7–6 (8–6), 6–0.

The Blues are back on the road next weekend with matches at Willamette and Puget Sound.
