Women's Lacrosse Falls To The College of Wooster In Texas Trip Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Whitman College opened its spring trip with a 16–7 loss to The College of Wooster in a neutral-site women's lacrosse game Tuesday afternoon. The Blues struck first and hung within two goals late in the third quarter before the undefeated Fighting Scots used a dominant fourth to pull away. Whitman fell to 1–4, while Wooster stayed perfect at 7–0.

Whitman set the tone early, controlling the opening draw and generating a series of chances before breaking through. After a pair of saves and a shot off the post, Serafin Miller finally put the Blues on the board, cutting to goal and finishing a feed from Sarah Hawkins at 11:58 of the first quarter for a 1–0 lead.

Wooster answered quickly and emphatically, scoring four straight to flip control of the period.
Back-to-back strikes from Brynne Snaguski and Priya Nehria in a 17-second span pushed Wooster in front, and a free-position goal from Kylie MacMillan followed by a tally from Mizan Jacobs made it 4–1. Whitman halted the run in the final minute of the quarter, when Molly Labhart finished off a pass from Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky to bring the Blues within 4–2 after one.

The second quarter belonged mostly to Wooster. Snaguski pushed the margin to three just 25 seconds into the period, and Lizzie Hardy capitalized on a player-advantage opportunity, scoring on a feed from Rowan Pilon at 11:32 to make it 6–2. Another Scots goal extended the lead to 7–2 before Whitman answered again. With under six minutes remaining in the half, Hawkins set up Lola McConaghy, who scored to trim the deficit to 7–3 heading into the break.

Whitman produced its best stretch of the day coming out of halftime. Hawkins opened the third quarter scoring with an unassisted goal at 9:48, attacking from up top and beating the goalkeeper to cut the margin to two. McConaghy followed with another individual effort at 3:04, dodging her defender and finishing to make it 7–5 and give the Blues momentum. After Wooster responded, Hawkins struck again in the final minute of the period, scoring unassisted with 24 seconds remaining to pull Whitman within 8–6 entering the fourth.

Wooster closed the game with an overpowering final frame. Hardy and Nehria scored 8 seconds apart early in the quarter, stretching the lead back to four and forcing Whitman to chase the game. The Scots continued to convert their chances, piling on eight goals in the period, including four from Hardy alone.

Goalkeepers Renn Novak and Kenzie Cain split time in net and combined for 10 saves.

The Blues continues their trip on Wednesday with another neutral site contest against UMass Boston set for 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
