GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Whitman College women's lacrosse team exploded for a season-high 17 goals and rolled past UMass Boston 17-8 in a neutral-site victory Wednesday at Southwestern University.
First-year attacker
Serafin Miller powered the Blues' offense with a game- and career-best four goals, including three in the second half as Whitman pulled away.
Sarah Hawkins added three goals and a game-high five assists for eight points, while
Lola McConaghy also finished with a hat trick.
Whitman led 3-0 after the first quarter and 7-2 at halftime, then put the game out of reach with a seven-goal fourth period. The Blues outshot the Beacons 30-21 and dominated the draw circle 18-9, turning extended possessions into their most prolific offensive outing of the season.
Emily Odegaard and
Ellie Milesi scored two goals apiece, and
Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky chipped in two more as nine different Blues recorded at least one point. Goalkeepers
Renn Novak and
Kenzie Cain combined for 10 saves, with Cain stopping seven shots and backstopping Whitman through a strong second half.
Teresa Sheedy led UMass Boston with two goals and one assist, and Rae Alexander added a goal and three assists. The Beacons dropped to 0-6, while Whitman improved to 2-4 with the nonconference win.
The Blues conclude their Texas trip with a matchup at Southwestern University on Thursday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
