Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Blues Upended In Loss To Willamette

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Whitman College women's lacrosse put together multiple runs and stayed within striking distance most of the afternoon, but a big second quarter from Willamette proved to be the difference in an 11–7 loss on Saturday at James Hayner Field. The game was played as a non-conference game between Northwest Conference opponents.

Willamette used a 6–2 surge in the second period to break open a 2–2 game at the first-quarter break and take an 8–4 lead into halftime. The Blues matched the Bearcats 2–2 in the third quarter and trailed just 9–6 before Willamette added two insurance goals in the final frame.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky and Sarah Hawkins paced Whitman with two goals apiece, with Pasena-Littlesky's back-to-back tallies in the third quarter pulling the Blues within two at 8–6 midway through the period. Hawkins did her damage early, converting a pair of extra-player opportunities in the first quarter, including the 2–2 equalizer with 39 seconds remaining in the frame. Ellie Milesi added one goal and two assists, factoring into three of Whitman's seven scores, while Lola McConaghy posted one goal and one assist.

Serafin Miller chipped in one goal, as Whitman finished with seven different players contributing at least one point in the attack. The Blues actually generated more shots than the visitors, outshooting Willamette 22–18 and putting 17 attempts on frame. Whitman also held a 12–9 edge in ground balls and finished just behind in draw controls, 10–9.

Defensively, Teagan Huff led Whitman with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, helping the Blues limit Willamette to four goals over the second half. In goal, Renn Novak made four saves while facing 18 total shots as Whitman battled through six penalties on the day.

Willamette's offense was led by Priya Mistry's three goals and one assist, while Alex Warfel and Alexandra Miller scored two goals each for the Bearcats.

The Blues will clash against George Fox on Sunday in a meeting between NWC heavyweights but also played as a non-conference game.
