Women's Lacrosse Nearly Hands Bruins First-Ever NWC Loss

NEWBERG, Ore. – Whitman College women's lacrosse put together one of its best offensive efforts of the season and nearly stunned previously unbeaten George Fox in Northwest Conference play, falling just short in a 13–12 thriller Friday night at Austin Sports Complex.

Sarah Hawkins and Emily Odegaard were unstoppable for the Blues (4-7, 0-1 NWC), each finishing with a game-high four goals as Whitman erased an early 3–0 deficit and led by as many as two before a late Bruin surge. Hawkins added three assists for a seven-point night, while Odegaard scored three of her four goals after halftime to power Whitman's comeback push.

After George Fox opened the second quarter with three straight goals, Whitman responded with a 6–1 run to take control of the game. Hawkins put the Blues on the board at 4:31 of the second, Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky finished a feed from Serafin Miller, and Hawkins struck again to tie it at 3–3. Lola McConaghy then caught fire, scoring three times in the final seconds of the half – including two feeds from Hawkins – as Whitman carried a 6–4 lead into the break and briefly handed George Fox the prospect of its first-ever conference loss.

The teams traded momentum in the third quarter, with Odegaard's first goal and another unassisted strike from Hawkins pushing Whitman ahead 8–6. George Fox answered with three straight to grab a 9–8 edge heading to the fourth, then used a four-goal burst to extend the margin to 13–8 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Whitman refused to go away, closing on a 4–0 run to set up a dramatic finish. Hawkins started the surge at 9:42 of the fourth, Odegaard converted a man-up chance off an Ellie Milesi assist, and added two more late – including a man-up tally with 47 seconds left off another Hawkins feed to pull within one at 13–12. The Blues won the final clear but could not find the equalizer before time expired.

McConaghy finished with a hat trick, and Pasena-Littlesky added one goal for Whitman, which outshot George Fox 34–22 and dominated the draw circle 18–10 behind a committee effort that included Hawkins, Miller, and others. Milesi chipped in two assists, and Joy Olson‑Uderitz anchored the ride and ground‑ball game with six ground balls.

On the other end, Lana Davis paced George Fox with four goals and four assists, while Ava Bluhm added three goals and two assists.

Renn Novak made seven saves in the Whitman cage, while George Fox's Kat Ellett and Gabrielle McClung combined for 14 stops.

Whitman returns to action on Saturday at Pacific. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
