Women's Lacrosse Tops Whitworth On The Road

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitman College women's lacrosse team used a blistering offensive start and a season-best night from Sarah Hawkins to roll past rival Whitworth 18-7 in Northwest Conference action Wednesday night.

Hawkins piled up six goals and five assists to finish with 11 points as Whitman improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in NWC play. Whitworth fell to 5-7 and 1-2 in the conference.

Whitman never trailed after Serafin Miller opened the scoring less than three minutes in and the Blues closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to build a 5-1 lead. Ellie Milesi scored twice in the period and Emily Odegaard added an unassisted strike to give Whitman control early.

Whitworth cut the deficit to 6-3 midway through the second quarter, but Whitman responded with three of the final four goals of the half to take a 9-4 advantage into the break. Hawkins and Miller each scored in the second, and Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky's second of the night restored a five-goal cushion just before halftime.

Whitman put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 5-1 to push the margin to 14-5. Miller completed her hat trick on a man-up free-position goal, and Lola McConaghy struck twice in the frame, including a man-up tally assisted by Molly Labhart. Hawkins added two more goals in the third, one off an Andrea Garcia feed and another unassisted in the final minute.

Pasena-Littlesky finished with four goals and two assists, while Miller added three goals and one assist. Milesi and McConaghy scored two goals apiece, and Odegaard chipped in one goal along with Allyson Burgess and Garcia supplying single assists.

Whitman outshot Whitworth 31-18 overall and 22-11 on goal, and owned a 23-13 edge in ground balls. The Blues also controlled the draw 16-12, led by Hawkins, Miller and Pasena-Littlesky in the circle. Whitman finished 14-for-20 on clears, while Whitworth went 11-for-13.

Campbell Vincent scored four goals to lead Whitworth, and Megan Whitman, Peyton Green and Keira Paulus added one goal each. Renn Novak backstopped Whitman with nine saves, while Whitworth keepers Charlotte Norton and Kayla Jones combined for five saves.

The Blues will have one game on the weekend when they host Linfield on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
