Women's Tennis Advances In Singles And Doubles At ITAs

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College women's tennis team took on the field at ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship and placed six players into Saturday's singles round of 16 and advanced two doubles teams to the quarterfinals. The three-day event is hosted by George Fox.

Whitman had three players move on in the A draw singles bracket. Renata Rosell earned a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Gloria Lau rallied after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Victoria Fontana also advanced by default.

Three Blues also advanced in the B draw singles bracket. Leah Lovato posted a 6-4, 6-3 win, Sadie Lieser prevailed 7-5, 6-1 and Michelle Deng recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory.

All six players will compete in Saturday's round of 16.

Whitman also sent two doubles pairings into the quarterfinal round. Lau and Fontana edged their opponents 9-7, while Rosell and Emerson Bonner cruised to an 8-2 win.

The ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship continues Saturday with the round of 16 in singles competition and the doubles quarterfinals, as well as consolation play.
