Women's Lacrosse Falls At Occidental

LOS ANGELES - The Whitman College women's lacrosse team had hoped to open its road trip on a winning note, but instead ran into a buzzsaw in a 20-1 loss at Occidental College on Tuesday.

Madeleine Sherry scored the lone goal for the Blues (4-2) who dropped their first non-conference contest of the young season.

Olivia Okamoto proved to be the top scoring threat for Oxy, scoring a match-high five goals to go along with one assist. Halle Knutson had her hand in nearly half her team's goals with four goals and three assists.

Renn Novak earned the start in goal for Whitman with Korin Wheaton inserted to start the second half. Novak posted 10 saves and Wheaton logged nine saves.

The damage was done early as Oxy scored six goals in the first quarter, two coming from the stick of Ava Whelan. Oxy netted six more in the second quarter to just about seal the win.

The Blues conclude their short trip on Wednesday at Whittier. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
