Gracie Maulik scored a team-high three goals,
Madeleine Sherry and
Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky both added two more but it came in defeat as the Whitman College women's lacrosse team fell 20-9 to Whitworth in Northwest Conference action on Wednesday evening at Hayner Field.
Jordyn Bennett, Campbell Vincent and Abby Hahn all led the Pirates (5-1, 2-1 NWC) with four goals.
Korin Wheaton posted 13 saves for the Blues (5-3, 1-2 NWC) in the first half and Renn Novak added three more after coming on to play the second half.
Whitworth jumped on the Blues early with eight goals in the first period. Hahn netted the game's first goal with 12:10 to play, then later scored and assisted on another to extend the lead to five.
Maulik and Eggerling's goals were the only ones in the first 15 minutes for the Blues who found the back of the net with more regularity in the second quarter. Sherry netted her first goal of the game and Pasena-Littlesky added two more, but the Bucs continued to pad their lead. Whitworth led by as many as nine points before taking a 13-6 lead into halftime.
Whitman kept the match competitive and were only outscored by one goal in the third quarter. Maulik had her hand in all three goals with one goal and two assists, but the Pirates managed to increase their lead and went up 17-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
Whitworth closed out the contest after shutting out the Blues in the fourth quarter.
Whitman continues its homestand on Sunday, March 24 against Puget Sound. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
