Sherry Sets Program Record, Women's Lacrosse Wins OT Thriller

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Madeleine Sherry delivered a historic offensive game, setting a new single-game program record with 10 goals to lead the Whitman College women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 18-17 overtime win at Linfield in the team's Northwest Conference opener on Friday evening.

Sherry's goal tally was also a Northwest Conference season high as she put the Blues (4-0, 1-0 NWC) on her back and carried them to the win. Teagan Huff had a fine game for Whitman as well with two goals while scooping up six groundballs and causing five turnovers. Izzy Eggerling and Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky both chipped in two goals.

Leah Stednick led the Wildcat effort with a team-high five goals, and Mackenzie Kulick and Maizri Chandler added three goals each.

Korin Wheaton picked up the win in goal with eight saves, and Tenley Hodge posted nine saves for the Wildcats.

Neither team held more than a two-goal lead at any point during the game. The fourth quarter began all knotted up at 14-14 but Sherry scored two goals to put her team up two with 7:32 to play. Linfield didn't let the game slip away and tied the game with 3:37 to play. Huff put the Blues back out in front but Stednick scored inside of two minutes to play as the teams headed to an extra time session.

Sherry had done the scoring all game long, but became the facilitator in the gamewinner. After Huff won the draw control, Sherry got the ball in the attack and found Eggerling who finished past Hodge to send Whitman to the sudden victory.

Whitman next takes on defending conference champion George Fox on Saturday, March 9 at 12:00 p.m.
