Women's Lacrosse Falls To Willamette

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - In its final preparations ahead of the Northwest Conference Tournament, the Whitman College women's lacrosse team fell to Willamette 16-7 in Northwest Conference on Saturday afternoon at Hayner Field.

Madeleine Sherry scored a team-high four goals for the Blues (9-7, 5-6 NWC) who have already secured the No. 4 seed in next weekend's league postseason tournament. Gracie Maulik scored two more and Izzy Eggerling added another to complete the Whitman scoring.

Willamette's Lily Bachiochi netted a game-high six goals, and Brooklyn Pearl and Claire Kisielnicki both added three more.

The Bearcats (12-3, 9-2 NWC), locked in as the No. 2 seed, dominated the Blues in the first half to the tune of an 11-1 halftime lead, but Whitman turned the tide in the second half both offensively and defensively. After the Blues were shut out in the second quarter, Eggerling and Sherry both scored to open the third quarter to get the offense going. Maulik added another two more goals to help her team double up the Bearcats in the third quarter scoring.

Whitman remained in the hunt in the fourth, but the first half deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Willamette coasted to the win.

Renn Novak posted eight saves in goal for the Blues with Olivia Austin recording two for the Bearcats.

The Blues close the regular season on Sunday with Senior Day against Pacific. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
