Women's Lacrosse Falls At Willamette In NWC Opener

SALEM, Ore. - Teagan Huff and Lola McConaghy both scored two goals, Sarah Hawkins added a goal and two assists, but it came in a nail biting 10-8 loss at Willamette in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The match was the conference opener for the Blues (1-1, 0-1 NWC) who open the league season with three straight road matches. The loss was also Whitman's first on the season after beating Eastern Oregon in its season opener.

Joy Olson-Uderitz and Andrea Garcia did the work on defense to keep the Blues in the game. Olson-Uderitz scooped up four groundballs and caused two turnovers, and Garcia scooped up three groundballs and also caused a pair of Bearcat turnovers.

Lily Bachiochi provided the punch for Willamette with her three goals and three assists.

Goals were hard to come by in the first half for both teams. The Bearcats went up 2-0 midway through the first quarter, but Whitman stymied their offense in allowing only one more the remainder of the half. Meanwhile Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky and McConaghy both scored to make it a 3-2 game at the half.

Both teams came alive in the third quarter. McConaghy, Huff and Hawkins scored in the first four minutes to put the Blues up 5-3, but Willamette answered back and retook the lead by quarter's end.

The seesaw affair continued into the final 15 minutes as the Blues retook the lead with goals from Ellie Milesi and Gracie Maulik. Those would be the final two of the game for Whitman, however, as Willamette evened the score then added two more inside of the final five minutes.

The Blues conclude conference opening weekend at George Fox on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
