McMINNVILLE, Ore. -
Sarah Hawkins scored a career-high six goals,
Gracie Maulik added four more and the Whitman College women's lacrosse team closed out a busy week of Northwest Conference play with a hard-fought 13-9 win at Linfield on Saturday afternoon.
Hawkins also had two assists for the Blues (8-4, 3-1 NWC) who now sit in a tie for second in the conference with Linfield, both behind George Fox who narrowly defeated the Blues this past Sunday.
Maya Wright and Maizri Chandler both led the Wildcats with three goals.
The Blues looked as if they would run away with the win after Maulik scored three goals in the first quarter to put her team up 6-0. The Wildcats chipped away at the lead over the second and third quarters but the Blues continued to keep them at bay.
Linfield whittled the lead to two with 4:38 remaining in the game, but back-to-back goals from Hawkins nailed down the win.
Whitman plays its final regular season home games next weekend, hosting Willamette on Saturday and Lewis & Clark on Sunday.
