Women's Lacrosse Edges Willamette In NWC Heavyweight Battle

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - With four matches to play and tournament seedings at stake, the Whitman College women's lacrosse team began its final home weekend with an 18-15 win over Willamette in Northwest Conference action on Saturday at James Hayner Field.

The Blues (9-4, 4-1 NWC) currently sit in second in the league standings behind undefeated George Fox, but still have work to do in their final three matches, two on the road, to secure a spot in the NWC Tournament.

In a high-scoring affair, Lola McConaghy led all scorers with six goals to go along with an assist. Sarah Hawkins and Teagan Huff both scored three goals and Hawkins added a game-high five assists to have a hand in nearly half of her team's goals.

Lily Bachiochi scored a team-high five goals for the Bearcats who also currently sit inside the top four in the standings.

Whitman trailed by a pair of goals at halftime, but outscored Willamette 9-2 in the third quarter to grab the upper hand heading into the final 15 minutes. McConaghy scored three in the third quarter to help put the Blues ahead for good.

Whitman retakes the field on Sunday for Senior Day against Lewis & Clark. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
