Women's Lacrosse Edged By George Fox

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Sarah Hawkins had three goals and one assist, Eliza Daigle added two goals and two assists, but it wasn't quite enough to hand George Fox its first Northwest Conference defeat in nearly a decade. The Blues went toe-to-toe with the Bruins but came up short 11-9 in a battle of top tier NWC teams played Sunday at James Hayner Field.

George Fox (6-4, 2-0 NWC) entered the day with a conference win streak of 75 games which nearly came to an end at the hands of the Blues (6-4, 1-1 NWC). Renn Novak had a fantastic day in between the pipes with 13 saves, posting stellar saves in key moments to keep the Blues in the game.

The Blues gave the home crowd much to cheer about for the duration of the match. The Blues trailed by three goals early in the fourth quarter but managed to whittle the lead to a single goal. Scores from Gracie Maulik and Hawkins made it a 10-9 game with 4:31 to play, but the Bruins answered with a goal just under four minutes to play and held on to the lead.

Joy Olsen-Uderitz played a key role in stymying the Bruin attack. Her five groundballs and two caused turnovers paced the defensive effort and minimized goal scoring opportunities.

Ava Bluhm led the way for George Fox with three goals and three assists.

The Blues have only two days off before returning to the pitch to host Whitworth on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
