Women's Lacrosse rolls past Southwestern, 16-3

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Whitman College women's lacrosse team closed its Texas road trip with a dominant 16-3 victory over Southwestern University on Thursday afternoon, getting a balanced scoring effort and a standout performance from Sarah Hawkins. The Blues led 2-1 after one quarter, broke the game open with a 6-0 second quarter and never looked back.

Hawkins finished with four goals and three assists to lead Whitman, which improved to 3-4 overall. Lola McConaghy scored three goals and added one assist, while Emily Odegaard, Ellie Milesi, Molly Labhart and Serafin Miller each contributed multiple goals.

Whitman jumped out to a quick start when Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky scored off a Hawkins assist at 11:13 of the first quarter, and Miller added a free-position goal to make it 2-0 less than six minutes later. Southwestern answered late in the opening period, but Whitman stretched the margin to 8-1 by halftime and continued to pull away after the break.

The Blues controlled play throughout, finishing with a 42-10 advantage in shots and a 28-3 edge in shots on goal. Whitman also won 15 draw controls, collected 25 ground balls and forced 21 Southwestern turnovers.

Renn Novak and Kenzie Cain split time in goal for Whitman, combining for six saves. Hannah Colvin made 18 saves for Southwestern, which fell to 1-7.

The Blues now return for a pair of home non-conference games, first against Kalamazoo College on Saturday, March 21 and 2:00 p.m.
