Women's Lacrosse Falls To Chapman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Whitman College women's lacrosse team fell to Chapman University, 13-4, on Monday afternoon at James Hayner Field, with Sarah Hawkins scoring two of the Blues' four goals in the nonconference matchup.

Whitman opened the scoring on a goal from Lola McConaghy, but Chapman answered quickly and gradually pulled away behind a balanced attack that produced 13 goals on 33 shots.

Hawkins scored once in the third quarter and again early in the fourth, while Serafin Miller added Whitman's other goal late in the game on a free-position shot.

Chapman led 3-1 after the first quarter and 8-2 at halftime before extending the margin with a 5-1 edge in the third and a 4-1 advantage in the fourth. Zoey Stephens led Chapman with three goals, while Anna Barton, Tade Scheid and Ada Carr each scored twice.

In goal, Whitman split time between Renn Novak and Kenzie Cain, who combined for eight saves.

The Blues are next in action on Friday, April 3 when they enter the beginning of Northwest Conference play and the home stretch of the regular season at George Fox. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
