Career Days From Miller, Hawkins Power Whitman to Season's Most Lopsided Victory

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's lacrosse team put together its most dominant performance of the season Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Pacific Lutheran 21-1 in Northwest Conference action at James Hayner Field.

Serafin Miller and Sarah Hawkins authored career performances in the rout, with Miller netting a career-high five goals while Hawkins orchestrated the offense with a career-best eight assists. The victory improved Whitman to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while the Lutes fell to 3-13 and 1-7.

The Blues set the tone immediately, as Miller scored the game's opening goal just 53 seconds after the opening draw. What followed was a relentless offensive assault that saw Whitman build an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and extend it to 14-0 by halftime.

Hawkins was the catalyst throughout, threading passes to teammates in dangerous positions and creating scoring opportunities at will. Her eight assists tied up seven different goal scorers, demonstrating the balanced attack that left Pacific Lutheran's defense searching for answers.

Lola McConaghy torched the Lutes for four goals, while Ellie Milesi added three of her own. Molly Labhart and Emily Odegaard each contributed two goals, and Caroline Femino rounded out the scoring with one. Beyond Miller's five-goal explosion, her ability to find open teammates showed in her assist on a Lola McConaghy tally.

The Blues controlled every facet of the game. Whitman dominated the draw circle 14-9, outshot the Lutes 34-4, and collected 22 ground balls to Pacific Lutheran's 15. The midfield pressure forced 25 turnovers from the visitors while committing just 14 themselves.

Pacific Lutheran's lone bright spot came midway through the third quarter when Issabella Marchio finally broke through against backup goalkeeper Kenzie Cain, ending the shutout bid at 13:54 to make it 14-1. But any momentum was short-lived, as Whitman responded with seven unanswered goals to close out the contest.

Renn Novak started in goal for the Blues and didn't face a shot in earning the win during the first 30 minutes. Cain relieved her for the second half and made two saves while allowing the lone goal. On the other end, Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Kassie Diller faced constant pressure, making eight saves in a losing effort.

The Blues close the regular season tomorrow against Puget Sound when they will honor seniors Jessie Levine, Teagan Huff and Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky in a special ceremony prior to the game.
